Make your own stylish and comfortable everyday bag. You can make this slouchy soft bag with almost any other fabric, but denim is always on trend! And using old jeans helps our Mother Nature in a very big way! A good sewing project for denim lovers and eco thinkers.
DIY denim bag in three styles, trendy and eco-friendly. Sewing pattern for this bag includes the variations for slightly different sizes and the instructions are showing three different designs, all based on using old jeans: patchwork, plain and stripy.
Difficulty level I’d say medium. Some sewing skills are required but the instructions are very detailed, so I am sure it is not too complicated. Plus there is a video for the confusing bit.
Size of the bag:
Size of the finished bag when flat:

Height 15” (38cm)
Width 19″ (48cm)
Height 18″ (46cm)
You will need:
To make this bag you will need some denim legs or scraps, two fat quarters of cotton for lining, zipper 50-55cm, something to make a strap. As you can imagine, this bag is a recycling project, so other things can be used. The tutorial has all necessary tips and tricks for troubleshooting and measurements, different strap options and so on.
I hope your sewing machine is strong enough — it will have to sew through a couple of tough places of layered denim. But I am sure you wouldn’t attempt sewing denim at all if your machine was the “light” type.
By the way, if you have an old hand-driven machine from grandma, you can use it! Those oldies go through almost any amount of layers no messing! I use one myself for the tough bits.
